Bachelor of Nursing (La Trobe), Diploma of Management
Practice Nurse
Shuyuan completed her first formal nursing qualification in her home province of Guangzhou, China in 2006 then worked for the next three years as a Respiratory and Surgical Registered Nurse at two traditional Chinese Medicine hospitals in Guangdong. That experience cultivated in her not only a well-rounded skill set but also a deep appreciation for the effectiveness of integrated medicine for patients.
She came to Australia in 2009, completed her Bachelor of Nursing at La Trobe University, then worked as a practice nurse at a Balwyn clinic for a couple of years. She took some time out for maternity leave then travelled with her husband to the USA where he completed a PhD in data science, then Germany for two years where he had a university teaching post. Shuyuan joined Wellness Medicine in March 2023.
She is passionate about preventative health care and her personal ‘gold-standard of care’ has always been to equip her patients with knowledge and tools necessary to maintain their health not only under her care, but also on their own.
Shuyuan says that “I initially sought out WM because of offerings in Integrative Medicine and a focus on the whole person”. She went on to add that, “since starting, I have come to love the welcoming team and the fact that we get the chance to spend quality time doing our work with patients. I can see why patients keep coming back. The whole team here – reception, nursing, and our doctors – really takes care of patients”.
Shuyuan is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese, and English, and some limited German. She has continued a taste for bushwalking that she developed in Germany, and enjoys Bikram Yoga and tennis.
