Angela Wong

Practice Nurse

Nursing, Grad. Dip., Primary Care Nursing, APNA, ANMF

Angela came to Australia from Hong Kong after high school to study at Queensland University of Technology, completing a Bachelor of Nursing in 2009 followed by a Graduate Diploma of Primary Care nursing at the University of Melbourne in 2015.

In 2007 Angela began work in general medical/surgical nursing in acute and emergency settings through agencies before taking a position as a practice nurse in 2011.  She left that job to join Wellness Medicine in Feb ‘16 “because I am passionate about preventative care and chronic disease management.  WM gives me the opportunity to be a key part of delivering this to our patients and to develop professionally in these areas.”

Her particular strengths and interests include:

Vaccinations and Immunisations for everyone, but especially children,

Care Plans and their use in Chronic Disease Management,

Travel Medicine, and

Screenings especially supporting and encouraging the ‘take-up’ of government funded and supported programs as a valuable service to our patients.

As well as handling all new patient intakes whenever possible, Angela is playing a key role in keeping patient records up to date and alerting patients to recommended and eligible screenings as you qualify through age or medical conditions.  Since many of you have been coming to us for more than 15 years, this is a big job.

Angela also manages all our medical supplies and equipment, dispensary and treatment room and oversees the results-recalls process.  “It is a busy and complex role” she says “but it is made easier because of the supportive colleagues and the strong teamwork between clinicians, admin and nursing.  It particularly helps that I am part of the weekly Clinical Meetings and bi-monthly Clinical Governance meetings and am able to make a real contribution to patient case management and our overall clinical excellence.”

Coming from Hong Kong Angela has never found it necessary to bother with a car licence, but she does have a boat licence because fishing is one of her recreations.  She also reads a wide selection of literature in the various languages she speaks in addition to English – Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, and Japanese.  She somehow finds time to keep fit by swimming and walking or relaxing with her Ukelele.  Angela is also quite an able cartoonist, a talent she puts to use for the pleasure of our very young visitors who enjoy the Wellness Table she looks after.
